Top 5 Family Photoshoot Locations in Hampshire

I love capturing natural family photos outdoors, and as a Fareham family photographer, I often guide my clients to some of the most scenic spots across Hampshire to preserve their cherished memories.
Why do I favor open-air sessions? Because there are so many beautiful locations to choose from, it can be difficult to pick just one—so I encourage each family to select their favourite from my extensive list.
While golden hour is undeniably lovely, I also appreciate the gentle tones of cloudy days, the dreamy ambiance of fog, and the magical glow at sunrise. With endless scenery to explore, there’s no better way to commemorate family life than by planning family photoshoots in Hampshire.
Below, you’ll find a brief list of my preferred local spots that truly bring these special moments to life.
Forest family photoshoot – New Forest
The New Forest is a national park since 2005 and it’s well known for its precious landscapes, ancient trees and historic monuments, protected species of plants and wildlife. New Forest, Hampshire is not only perfect for infinite walking trails, but also for family activities, including family photoshoots.
With plenty of locations to choose from, New Forest has beautiful villages too which create the perfect backdrop for a special family photoshoot. Some of my favourite places for family sessions are in Moors Valley, Bolderwood Deer Sanctuary and Lyndhurst Forest and village.
Lots of ponds and rivers make the landscape so picturesque. And let’s not forget about all donkeys, deer, cattle, horses and ponies wondering around freely. A real attraction for kids, so you will not only get beautiful, natural photos of your family, but you’ll also get to explore this special national park.

Family photoshoot at the beach – West Wittering Beach, Chichester
West Wittering Beach is situated South of Chichester and offers great views of Portsmouth and Isle of Wight. This sandy shore makes an ideal location for a family photoshoot at the beach. Golden hour is so spectacular here, it’s almost like watching a show.
If you feel adventurous, you can have a dip in the water, no matter the season. Of course, in the summer, it is an absolute joy to go for a swim after your session. But I’d have to say some of my clients were very brave and enjoyed a little dip even when the water was colder.
This place is not only perfect for a natural family photoshoot, but also for couple engagements or “Save the date” sessions. I have also photographed some gorgeous pregnant mamas here and the results are stunning. So, if you are looking for a Chichester family photographer, I’m the one.
Family photoshoot in a lovely park – Royal Victoria Country Park, Southampton
This location is one of my favourites because has it’s pretty all year round. Royal Victoria Country Park has something to offer in all types of weather. Imagine your kids jumping in muddy puddles or running around the lovely park.
There’s plenty of parking available and is easy accessible for prams and buggies, which is what makes it perfect for families. Also, the park has a cute café called The Cedar Rooms with indoor and outdoor seating spaces. I often take clients there for coffee after our session to enjoy quality time together.
In the middle of the park, you’ll find Royal Victoria Chapel, which used to be the Royal Victoria Military Hospital. It is a stunning venue used often for special occasions. If you’d like to spend the rest of the day there after our family photoshoot, you can take a picnic basket and use one of the available spaces with tables and benches.
Your kids can play nicely, and you can enjoy a delicious snack and a drink before heading back home.

Family photoshoot within historical icon – Portchester Castle, Portchester
Overlooking Portsmouth Harbour, Portchester Castle is a remarkable fortification and historic royal residence dating back to the 3rd century. Visitors today can see a Norman church nestled within the remains of an ancient Roman fort.
Its outer walls, which extend to the waterfront, form one of the most complete Roman fortifications in Europe, while the Norman church itself features stunning stone carvings, arches, and a medieval font.
As a Fareham family photographer, I find this castle to be an ideal spot for natural family photos. Beyond its private car park—managed by English Heritage—the site provides plenty of space for little ones to explore, making it a fun and educational outing as much as a photography session.
Thanks to its setting and breath-taking sunset views, Portchester Castle is a wonderful choice for family photoshoots, Hampshire families can treasure for years to come their memories captured in their photography session within this historical icon.
Family photoshoot at a nature reserve – Butser Hill, Petersfield
Situated South-West of Petersfield, this nature reserve is an ideal location for lifestyle family photoshoots. The views over the hill are so pretty. On a sunny day, the views can go as far as Petersfield and even some parts of Surrey can be seen from the top of Butser Hill.
It is one of the highest points in Hampshire and it offers a spectacular sightseeing experience for all family. There is also a café, perfect for a quick break and a little snack. This location is perfect for walks too, but not too friendly for pushchairs.
So you might struggle a little bit if your little ones aren’t walking yet. This is also a great place for taking your dogs for a walk, as many of my clients include their dogs in their family portrait photoshoots.
From the lush woodlands of the New Forest to the sandy shores of West Wittering Beach and the historic grounds of Portchester Castle, Hampshire offers a wealth of scenic backdrops for unforgettable family photoshoots.
As a Hampshire family photographer committed to capturing natural family photos, I love guiding each family toward locations that resonate with their unique style. Whether you’re splashing in the sea, wandering among ancient ruins, or exploring rolling hills, these stunning settings ensure timeless portraits that celebrate both your loved ones and the beauty of county.
